Khun Badihr
Deep within the Badihr Mountain lies a sprawling metropolis that has been carved into the very stone itself. Here, between the carved and stacked stone buildings, thousands of people go about there days. The streets bustle with pedestrians, merchant carts, and wagons laden with various goods and precious materials. The capitol city of the nation of Gildreda teems with life under the glow of magic lamps, bioluminescent fungi, and blazing furnaces.
Khun Badihr was first founded around 1500 years ago, with most of its current residents having deep ancestral roots in the city. It is here that the first Dwarven King established his Kingdom.
The current population is unknown, but is estimated to be about 32,000.
The day-to-day operations of the city are managed by a representative appointed every decade by the Monarch.
Current Mayor is Yurgani Runemantle. (Mountain Dwarf Female, ~220yrs old)
The city acts as the central hub of traffic for the nation, with all 10 roadways converging in the city. Each roadway is named after a different dwarven hero.
Rukken Thundercloak: Famed for his victory against a Storm Giant while being struck by lightning repeatedly.
Skosgruil Shatterbrand: Famed for his naval victory against the Eclen Trading Co. Armada, where he rammed the flagship.
Houstruil Trollbreaker: Famed for his last stand against a horde of trolls, allowing a caravan of Merkhwald refugees to escape.
Yaggella Warsword: Famed for her superior swordsmanship. She fought in over 200 gladiator matches without a single scratch.
Umatala Mudmace: Famed for her leading of Gildredan troops to victory against Merkhwald troops. Many drowned in the mud.
Rubolsia Leadslinger: Famed for her expert marksmanship. She was able to shoot, and kill, a Uruxcal war chief from over 500m.
Durimmik Shatterchin: Famed for breaking the jaw of a pit fiend with a single punch as he fought off an incursion.
Neralaed Embercloak: Famed for rescuing over 30 children from a burning orphanage.
Hobula Wormsbane: Famed for exterminating several purple worms that were threatening roadways.
Yoyoline Noblebender: Famed for leading her fellow captives against their Eclen captor, and capturing the estate.
There are 7 Districts in the city:
Castle District:
True to its name, this is where one would find the King's Castle. This is also the district where all government and regulatory agencies have their offices.
North Ward:
Due to it's proximity to the Castle District, the North Ward is where Nobility and Government Officials live. Many companies will often have their corporate offices in this district as well.
Old District:
The Old District is where the city was originally founded, as it was where the original cavern was located before they expanded. Some people call this the "Historical District". Here you will find museums, archives, and some of the older company offices and many store fronts.
Snow Walk:
A mostly middle-class residential district, this neighborhood got its name from where it's roads lead. The roads stemming from this area all lead to the surface (with many branching roads further down connecting to further underground roadways). Warsword roadway leads to the summit of the mountain where one can find the ruins of an ancient temple to Selune, Goddess of the moon. Legend says that weapons forged here under a blood moon will become imbued with Selune's blessing.
Copper Horn:
This district is home to hundreds, if not thousands, or workshops. The never-ceasing roars of furnaces fill the street, adding to the cacophony of noises from foremen shouting and the ringing of hammers on anvils. There are no additional light sources here, allowing for the warm red glow of the forges to illuminate the dark roads and alleys. The air here is hot and heavy, pressing down on those who traverse the streets. The roadways leading in and out of here lead directly to the mines where gems, iron, mithril, gold, and other valuable resources are extracted.
The Hall:
A middle-to-lower class residential district, this is where many workers of the city live. The businesses here are far from impressive, with many of them being simple necessities and the occasional tavern for denizens to unwind after a hard days work. While most here are far removed from the wealth of their middle/upper class neighbors, there are very few, if any, individuals who are destitute here due to Gildreda's universal income policy.
Hay Pass:
Home to the farmer's markets and stockyards. Here is where farmer's from subterranean or surface farms will peddle their goods and services.
