Rekelsian History/Info
Originally founded as a kingdom under King Hermann Rekels the First, the Rekelsian Republic is the largest nation in all of Fractum Terras.
Between the years of 750 and 910, the royal family's power slowly waned, and various cults worshiping the different gods gained more and more power.
In 909, the monarch of the time enacted what was known as the "Men before Gods" act.
This act outlawed public worship and affiliation to any god or deities. It closed temples, and stole their relics. It arrested and executed those who would not renounce their gods. The violence enacted by the crown was met with fierce, and often violent, resistance from the populace.
In 910, after a temple to Aphrodite was burned down with over 100 occupants inside, the kingdom erupted into civil war.
This war, which lasted 12 years, became known as the "Rekelsian Revolution".
The war impacted nearly every square mile of the nation, and every soul living within it.
The death toll, while never officially validated, is estimated by most scholars to be upwards of 1 million people.
After the war ended with the "Treaty of 922", the Rekelsian Republic was founded.
The Rekelsian Constitution is short and simple, with only 7 provisions.
1: All are permitted to worship freely and openly, as long as their religious practice does not cause harm or undo inconvenience to others.
2: The Republic shall be governed by elected officials of any race, creed, or gender as long as they are of the age of adulthood for their race.
3: No elected official shall hold their position for more than a 3 year term. At the end of this term, they may run for public office again, but it must be in a different position than the previously held office. No one may hold elected office of any kind or combination for more than 30 years.
4: Military action must be strictly defensive. Any offensive military action must be approved by a 2/3 majority vote of the senate. Upon the passing of any approval for offensive military action, all senators who voted "yea" must immediately vacate their office and are automatically enlisted into front line units.
5: No law shall be passed that would infringe upon the personal rights and freedoms of an individual, as long as those rights and freedoms do not harm or infringe upon others.
6: All citizens, upon reaching the age of adulthood for their race, must serve a minimum of 2 years in public service. This may be the military, healthcare, town guard, fire fighting, or nature management. Citizens may file for exemption from this duty, but said exemption must be approved by their senator directly. Family of elected officials are not eligible for public service exemption.
7: Anyone accused of a crime must be allowed a legal representative (court-appointed if they cannot afford a private representative). They must also be afforded a choice between trial by either a jury of their peers, or by the presiding judge. No one may be held in prison for longer than 24hrs without being charged with a crime, and those charged with a crime must be brought to trial within 1 lunar cycle.
